About the Center

Scientific and Technological Quality

Particular research achievements The Centre has undertaken a great number of research projects, covering a broad field of mechanical engineering, of food processing, agriculture and management (logistics). The scientists working in the Center have taken part in many projects granted by the "The State Committee for Scientific Research" (KBN). Only for the last period 1999 - 2001 eight projects have been positively evaluated.

The Center has had a considerable research results and development experience in a broad scope of science and technology. Main research activities may be categorized into groups, as follows:

  • Analysis, and investigations of processes in food industry;
  • Study of thermodynamic processes;
  • Mathematical modeling of processes in agriculture and food industry for purposes of Automatic control and/or for monitoring;
  • Modeling of continuous industrial processes (for example mixing, drying);
  • Devise new processing methods and design new apparatus or re-design those in a current application, industrial tools and the manufacturing arrangements;
  • Computer (digital) control of driving systems (servomechanisms); pneumatic drives: study of phenomena, design for industry, CAD software;
  • Grippers for robots;
  • PLC programming, control and applications involving digital signal processing methods (DSP applications) for industrial control;
  • Industrial control, especially with the ANN applications;
  • Measuring devices, for example for density of the in-stream milk;
  • Image processing;
  • Analysis and study of machines in agriculture [1];
  • Inventing new algorithms for design and composing software packages, general algorithms for Computer Aided Control Systems Design;
  • Plants protection, microbiology; for example the effect of synthetic and natural pesticide compounds on soil micro-organisms, pathogens and plants;
  • Industrial drying control, especially with the ANN applications;
  • Industrial drying plant for wood, with energy saving control;
  • Modeling of discrete processes in traffic;
  • Long term stores for potatoes (industrial applications of new energy saving control systems and algorithms);
  • Materials and structures used in solar power;
  • Surface processing and thermo-mechanical conditioning of machine elements.

The role which the Centre plays in the national and local socio-economic development may be evaluated by RTD projects, implemented in industry and patents lastly issued. The list -limited to the period 1998 to 2000 only - comprises 23 documented cases.

The completed projects may be categorized to:

  • Monitoring and automatic control of industrial processes;
  • Analysis, and investigations of processes in food industry to design new processing methods and to design new installations or re-design those apparatus in current application;
  • Metal surface processing;
  • Industrial tools and the manufacturing arrangements.

Also, the influence of the Centre in the national dimension may be assessed by conference we organize, periodically; these are to:

  • on Polyoptimisation and Computer Aided Design, yearly, with ca 75 participants of all academic centres in Poland with reviewed transactions (issued as the book) of ca 50 papers each year;
  • on Mixing in Industry, which we organize in a sequence system, every few years, with about 40 participants of all involved academic centres in Poland, with reviewed transactions of ca 30 papers.
